How the west was won

"Sound of Roaring Thunder"

The "Sound of Roaring Thunder" (SORT) Marching Band is the most visible and diverse part of our band program.  It consists of 90+ members including all musicians, and the "Lightning Ladies" Color Guard.  We perform at all football games in the fall, as well as various marching band competitions.  The "Sound of Roaring Thunder" has constantly earned Superior ratings at the Florida Bandmasters Association District 2 Marching Music Performance Assessment.  We have also received Superior ratings at marching festivals and competitions such as the Blackwater Classic Band Festival in Milton, FL and the A-Town Invitational Marching Band Festival, Andalusia, AL.

We begin a rigorous schedule of learning to march and play at the beginning of June during Rookie Camp.  Here, new students are "shown the ropes" of our program by our select student leaders   The summer schedule includes 2 weeks of band camp one in May and the other at the end of July. ALL students who wish to be members of the "Sound of Roaring Thunder" Marching Band are required to participate in Rookie camp during their first year of membership.
